NEWS OF NOTE . . . . .

  • NoVA and DC Posts Joint 2008 Scholars and Honors Gala, at the historic Mayflower Hotel to award our respective Post's academic scholarships. Mark your calendar now for September 20, 2008.  Click logo for invitation and 2008 Gala Committee.

  • The 4th Quarter 2007 Postscripts, the full-color quarterly post newsletter is posted online, click NEWSLETTERS in the menu.  Our Editor is Publicity Director Amber McCormick, PBS&J.  Please submit articles and ideas to her for the 1st Quarter, 2008 edition to be published in April 2008.

  • We keep growing!  17 Sustaining Members joined in 2007;  11 so far in 2008.

  • The Northern Virginia Post's geographical area comprises Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties (zip codes starting with 220, 221, and 223).  We usually meet the first Thursday of every month either at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club or the Waterford at Fair Oaks.
  • Third Annual Small Business Industry Forum—4 September 2008.  We plan to have a limited number of Exhibitors from both small and large businesses for this special event.  To be an Exhibitor, please submit this Registration Form to Ellen Chang at Tidewater, Inc. via fax at 410-997-8713, or e-mail to ellenchang@tideh2o.net by 1200 hours Friday, 29 August 2008.  See our schedule for a listing of our three featured speakers.

  • 2007 Post Streamer Awards. Your Post had a "clean sweep", winning all six streamer awards, including Distinguished Post for the 14th year in a row.  Also, we expanded from 50 to 67 Sustaining Members—the 17 member increase a modern post record  We will "pin on" the new "year bars" and silver stars to our many streamers during the July luncheon meeting.  Congratulations to all members and firms for these special honors and check our AWARDS page.
  • The 9th Annual Scholarship Drive Tournament will be 5 June 2008 at the Penderbrook Golf Club.  Scramble Format starts at 1 PM, $100/75 per golfer (includes green fees, cart, deluxe buffet dinner, green fee pass for future use, door prizes, and drink tickets).  Sponsorship information and individual/team registrations are available now from Tracy Allen, ECS, at Golf Flyer (2.7KB PDF File) or call (703) 471-8400.

  • January 3, 2008 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, North Atlantic Division, Fort Belvoir BRAC presentation now posted on our RESOURCE LINKS page. Get the details on the $5.3B area construction program now started and continuing through FY2011.

  • Post 2007 Awards.  Five winners announced for outstanding contributions during 2007 at the January 3, 2008 luncheon meeting.  Sustaining members of the year Tidewater, Inc. (Small Business) and PBS&J (Large Business).  Also, young member of the year Aimee O. Alix, Turner Construction; member of the year COL Stuart G. Harrison; and Student leadership award to Jesse B. Coleman, GMU.

  • September 6, 2007 Small Business Industry Forum All three featured presentations are now posted on our RESOURCE LINKS page. Outstanding information from DOD, Army, and Navy briefers including the BRAC project impact here at Fort Belvoir with dollars from FY07 to FY13.  Each briefing contains Points of Contact.
