SAME Engineering and Construction Camp

Camp dates are set for the SAME U.S.Marine Corps Engineering and Construction Camp 2.0. Once again the camp will be hosted at MCB Camp Lejeune. Camp dates are 22-28 June 2014. There are still ample opportunities to volunteer for the camp. Please see the attached flyer for mentor and volunteer opportunities.

College Scholarships:

Since 2007, the Post has awarded scholarships totaling $12,300.   The Post awarded three scholarships in Jan 13.  Each of these new scholarships is  good for four years, provided the student progresses with their education and extracurricular activities.  The most recent winners are:

      $2,000 scholarship (payable in $500 per year increments assuming awardee maintains good standing)

       Highest rated candidate by majority of raters

       Richlands High School senior

       Plans to enroll at North Carolina State University to major in engineering

       Cumulative GPA of 3.89  (unweighted); 3rd in class of 226  (as of 12 Jun 13)

Ethan Smith

       Cumulative GPA of 3.74  (unweighted); 4th in class of 226  (as of 12 Jun 13)

       FIRST Team SPOT Robotics (project leader)

       4H Robotics Team (president and founding member)

       Odyssey of the Mind (1st place regional; 4th place state)

       Academic Derby (Captain for 2013-2014) (1st county; 1st Rotary; National Participant)

       Beta Club (Treasurer for 2013-2014) (3rd place Math state; top 10 Math National)

       Skills USA (2nd place regional; 2nd place state in Math)

       Soccer and Swimming

       Highest rated in activities

       2nd strongest rated letters of recommendation

 

Others receiving $500 checks included:  Second year:  Nathan Moore and Jonathan Thomas.  Third year:  Helen Nguyen.   And fourth/final year:  Cydney Anderson.
