REGIONAL VICE
PRESIDENT MESSAGE
I
am excited to be the Mid-Atlantic RVP. I have been involved
with SAME since I was a Lieutenant and have held several post
and national positions over the years. This is my first RVP
position, but I want to ensure you I am here to support you
and the senior leaders in your Posts to be successful supporting
the Society, our great country and the engineering field as
a whole.
I am putting together a team to better assist you and your Posts
be the very best they can be. I am pleased to announce two experienced
SAME members who I have a lot of respect for as my Deputy RVPs
to assist me over the next couple of years. Mr Jim Donahue,
Northern Virginia Post, and Ms Pat Gaskins, Virginia Peninsula
Post. Both are here to assist and serve with you. To support
you better, Jim and Pat will each take half the region. Jim
will be responsible for the posts in the north to include the
Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Blue Ridge posts and Pat
is responsible for the southern posts to include Virginia Peninsula,
Hampton Roads, Goldsboro and Coastal Carolina posts. They will
assist with Post and individual awards, Fellows submissions,
and other required National and Region suspenses to ensure we
meet all requirements as outlined by SAME.
As we set course for the next two years I have established RVP
Goals & Objectives for the Middle Atlantic Region. They
are not listed in any priority.
Welcoming new members:
SAME National recently initiated a new process for welcoming
New Individual and Sustaining Members by sending an email to
the member within 48 hours of our entering the member in our
database with a copy going to the Membership Point of Contact
of each Post the member has joined. There are two new features
to this process:
|
- First,
SAME National had been sending a letter to the member with
a Membership Card and Certificate several weeks after the
member joined resulting in the member wondering during this
time whether his/her payment had been received. A confirmation
email acknowledging receipt should provide improved member
support.
- Second,
SAME National is now sending a copy of the email to the
Membership Points of Contact at the Posts to which the member
has joined. In the past, Posts would have to download a
roster from our web site to find out if they had new members.
Now they will get an email for each new Member so the Post
can welcome the member to the Post. It is important that
Posts identify a Membership Point of Contact-hopefully one
for Individual Members and one for Sustaining Members. A
form is available on the SAME web site for Posts to identify
Points of Contact. A major complaint we receive from
members is that they do not hear from the Posts when they
join. I would ask to make this a focus of your Post to follow-up
with new members.

If
you have any questions, please contact Ms. Robin Erwin for Individual
Membership (rerwin@same.org)
or Ms. Jackie Porter (jporter@same.org)
for Sustaining Membership, both at SAME National.
I look forward to your feedback on these objectives and how
we can assist you and the Society better. I would like to visit
each post at least once per year and I do have a busy schedule
but if there is a post meeting or two that you think would really
be worthwhile to attend please let me know and I will see if
I can make it happen. Thanks and again let me know how I can
assist you.
