The SAME Mobile Post would like to invite you to attend the 2015 Mobile District Industry Day Workshop on December 10, 2015 in Mobile, Alabama at the Battle House Hotel.  You are cordially invited to stay afterward to attend the Christmas Social, also at the Battle House in Mobile.

Join us with representatives from several USACE District-Centers (including Huntsville, Mobile, Jacksonville, Savanah, New Orleans and more) the US Navy, the City of Mobile, State of Alabama and many seasoned members of the private sector.

The Annual Christmas Social (separate event) follows in the Crystal Ballroom (at the Battle House) at 5:30.  Package deal available to attend both events.  If possible, please bring a toy to donate to the Wilmer Hall Toy Drive.

Mobile Post’s Rick Beirne inducted into the SAME Academy of Fellows

Since 1972, SAME has bestowed the designation of Fellow on SAME members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to SAME and to military engineering.  Mobile Post member and Elected Director Rick Beirne, PE was inducted into the SAME Academy of Fellows on March 12, 2015.  Congratulations Rick!

Mobile Post’s Joe Ruffer celebrates 50 Years in SAME

Joe W. Ruffer, PE, Mobile County Engineer and Public Works Director, is celebrating 50 years of membership in SAME. Joe is a graduate of Auburn University, completing his B.S. Civil Engineering in 1964 and M.S. Civil Engineering in 1965. His first professional assignment was as 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1966-1968, where he served first as the Assistant Post Engineer at Camp Pickett, Virginia, then as 1st Lt. in Vietnam as the Engineering Officer in charge of Logistic Support. He received the U.S. Army Bronze Star Commendation Medal and Reserve Component Achievement Medal.  Mr. Ruffer joined Palmer & Baker Engineers in 1969, where he designed and supervised construction of the I-10 Mobile River Tunnel. He joined Harbert International 1971-74 as the Construction Engineering Manager in charge of Utility Construction in the State of Louisiana.  In 1974, he joined Mobile County Public Works, where he serves today as the County Engineer and Public Works Director.  Joe is a Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama and a member of the Chi Epsilon national civil engineering honor society. He lives in Wilmer, Alabama, and has a son, Jay, who lives in Montgomery, and a daughter, Lea, who lives in Semmes. Joe is an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and all manner of bird hunting.  Our thanks go out to Joe for his 50 years of service to SAME and our congratulations for his lifetime of accomplishments!
