Mission and Post Overview

The mission of the Society of American Military Engineers is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public and private sector engineers, and related professionals. The Pensacola Post of SAME includes over 100 military and civilian members and 11 sustaining member firms from the Florida Gulf Coast.

Luncheon meetings are normally held on the Thursday of the third week of each month at various locations. Information for the monthly meetings and upcoming events are communicated through a monthly newsletter. Guests are always welcome to attend. This Month

August General Membership Meeting
Date: August 26, 2010

Robert B. Switzer, Vice President of operations of Lamar Advertising, will be presenting on Lamar’s project to convert approximately 1,370 billboards throughout Florida to renewable energy. The $12.5-million project consists of installing a total of one Megawatt (1,000 kilowatts) of renewable energy generation in the form of solar or wind power on 1,370 separate billboard structures in eight markets from Pensacola to Daytona and Tallahassee to Fort Myers. The installations are being installed on billboards along interstates and major thoroughfares, giving the project the widest public exposure. The U.S. Department of Energy is providing a $2.5-million grant to the project through the Florida Energy and Climate Commission and the Governor’s Energy Office, while Lamar is funding the remaining $10 million.

Lunch and the presentation will be at the Naval Aviation Museum’s Cubi Bar’s Westpac Room onboard NAS Pensacola from 11:30 to 1:00.
