Katrina Impact on 2006 Joint Engineer Education and Training Conference and Expo

The SAME Leadership is awaiting a recommendation from the Lower Mississippi Region and the Louisiana Post regarding the 2006 national conference scheduled for late May in New Orleans.  Please be patient.  While we are looking a couple of contingency options, our first priority is to support the Region and Post to the extent the City of New Orleans and the Marriott Hotel at which the conference is planned are able to support our event.  We plan to make a final decision on or before November 2, 2005.

SAME Members Offered Reduced Rate for IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM) Program, October 5-7, 2005, Portland, Oregon

·         Enhance Your Company’s Competitiveness for Government Contracts

·         Register Today – Conference Registration Encouraged but Not Required

Come to Portland, Oregon, in October to attend the Northwest and Pacific Joint Education & Training Conference, October 2-4, 2005, and come away a Certified Facility Manager (CFM).  Who should become a CFM?  Anyone who manages facilities in the private or public sector.  For those in the public sector, becoming a CFM is part of your lifelong learning and professional development.  For those in the private sector or those transitioning from the public to private sector in the next couple of years, whether NCO, officer or civilian, the CFM credential has been shown to give certified facility managers significantly higher salaries than those without a CFM.  In addition, more government agencies are recognizing the CFM in evaluating companies for base operations support contracts.  To qualify for the CFM, you must first meet the education and experience requirements and then pass an exam.  As a CFM you will join an elite group of Facility Management professionals, so it is a great investment in your future!  Again, come to Portland, take the CFM Review Course, attend other portions of the conference, network with more than 200 expected attendees, and either sit for the exam on Saturday or go home and take it when you can.  But the sooner you take the exam after the review course, the better chance you have of passing.  In SAME's pilot program in 2004, 23 of the 26 participants passed the exam--all of whom took the exam within 30 days of the review course.  For information and registration, go to the CFM Review Course and Exam on the SAME Web site.

Reduced Prices for Public Agency and Public Sector Individual Memberships.  The Board of Direction approved a revised dues structure for public sector individuals and agencies at its meeting in May 2005.  The new dues structure for Public Agencies became effective July 1, 2005, reducing the dues from $400 to $250 and simplifying the dues structure to eliminate the tiered structure.  Current Public Agency members will pay the reduced amount of $250 when they renew their membership.  The Board reduced the annual dues for the public sector from $65 to $50, with additional discounts for multi-year options. The new dues for public sector Individual Members will go into effect Jan. 1, 2006, which is the annual renewal date for all Individual Members.  These actions are in support of the Society’s goal to increase public sector membership and participation.
