The Society of American Military Engineers
2004 Annual Plan

Proud Heritage, Promising Future

As this year's president of The Society of American Military Engineers it is my honor and privilege to extend greetings to all who serve this nation in any aspect of national defense -- on active duty, as an industry design professional, constructor/builder, material or service supplier.

Since the beginnings of our Society in 1919, and its chartering in 1920, the Society has served as the definitive resource for perspectives and pertinent information to enhance the preparedness of our nation in peace, conflict, and both national and international emergencies. It is our purpose to advance and support the Nation's ability to rapidly mobilize engineering and construction capabilities. The Society's members have risen to the challenge on many fronts and under demanding circumstances. These have come to characterize our Proud Heritage.

Today, the Society is focusing on the contemporary and future issues that embody the advancement of the knowledge of defense and military engineering. Our mission activities and programs transcend the dissemination and sharing of leading-edge information for our members regarding Information/Knowledge Management, International Action, Technology Advancement, Readiness, Education, Young Member, Environmental, Industry and Military Affairs. We are committed to adding value in each of these areas in order to help develop the professional capabilities of our individual members and those of our corporate and public agency member organizations to the fullest extent and thus ensure their Promising Future.

As you review our mission, values, and this Annual Plan, I am confident you will quickly conclude that there are only four choices concerning The Society of American Military Engineers:
