The criteria for a Distinguished Post in 2008 have been amended to include sending a Board Member, (and in the case of Medium and Large Posts, a Young Member as well) to a Post Leaders Workshop in calendar year 2008. The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) offers two Post Leaders Workshops each year. These workshops are designed to provide new Post leaders with information on best practices, and for everyone to share ideas about how to achieve the goals set forth in the SAME Strategic Plan. The workshops also provide Young Members a unique opportunity to work with Post Leaders as well as the National Leaders of the Society.

SAME’s Executive Director and  HQ Staff organize these hands-on workshops and invite SAME’s President or 1st Vice President; selected Regional Vice Presidents and National Committee Chairs to participate and facilitate sessions at each workshop.

What does SAME HQ pay for?
SAME National will fund 1 Board Member and 1 Young Member per Post per Year.
This funding covers:
1. 2 nights lodging at Workshop hotel
2. Meals during workshop [Friday breakfast and lunch, Saturday breakfast]
3. Reception [At historic Century House, the national SAME HQ]
4. SAME Shirt
5. Workshop Materials
6. If space is available, additional Post Board Members are welcome to attend by paying a registration fee of $500.00
7. SMALL Posts please note: In order to encourage Small Post representation, SAME offers a subsidy for travel costs up to $300 for 21 CONUS Post attendees and up to $500 for 4 OCONUS Post attendees (Post Leaders or Young Members). How do I attend?

2. Make travel arrangements as noted above. For the fall workshop, you should plan to arrive in the afternoon or evening of Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008
3. You DO NOT need to make hotel arrangements- ALL room reservations will be handled through SAME HQ and a confirmation number will be sent to you at the email you provide in your online registration.
4. If your Post would like to send additional members to the Workshop, they can register as “Post Sponsored Attendee” and pay the registration fee of $500

Where is the hotel located?
1. The Sheraton National Hotel is located in Arlington VA and offers a complimentary shuttle service – with scheduled runs every 30 minutes to Reagan National Airport, the Pentagon, Crystal City, the Mall in DC, restaurant row, and Metro – from 6 AM to 11 PM
2. The hotel is just outside the District of Columbia, on the Virginia side of the Potomac River and is only 7 miles from the SAME Headquarters office, the Century House!
